Y ROUTE - BIRMINGHAM TO MANCHESTER AND LEEDS
On 28th January 2013 the Secretary for State for Transport announced plans to extend HS2 north from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds. The announcement brought with it a new wave of opposition to HS2 from northern cities, towns and villages affected by the route and people from the north of the country aghast at the amount of money being spent on HS2 with so little benefit to most of the North.
